OHJAM is a Midwest Game Jam being held at The Crawlspace Concert Club in Girard, OH. While the event focuses on the rapid design and production of games, everyone is welcome to hang out, watch, and even join in! If you love to make games, or you just love to play them, come out and see what OHJAM is all about!
Tons of events happen in bigger cities like San Francisco, New York, and Toronto - and those events are all awesome! But I decided I wanted to do something more accessible for people who can't make it out from the midwest to those larger cities, or who just don't vibe well with the big-city environment.
If you can navigate yourself to US422, Head toward Youngstown and keep on US422 until you hit Girard. If you aren't too great with verbal directions, Google Maps, or whatever navigation app you use, will be your friend! Parking is directly across Wilson St. If that lot is full, we also have permission to use Charter One's parking lot.
Doors open at 10AM - Event Starts at 12PM
You don't want to waste tons of precious time just getting your set-up running properly. Get your software in order and make sure you have all the tools you need. PixelProspector has a HUGE LIST of art, music, and development tools and resources.
Make sure to get as much rest as possible before the jam. There are no beds at the venue, so you can either sleep uncomfortably on the floor or you can try to power through it and just work. Either way, you'll probably have more fun if you're not exhausted.
A laptop, a mouse, and possibly a controller is the ideal setup for a jam - if you need to bring more than that, feel free! But, as a warning: While the venue isn't tiny, if there are a lot of people joining in, space may be limited. (Fire code limits to 200 people)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The venue doesn't have WiFi, so if you think you'll need internet, you need to bring your own mobile hotspot. This is another important reason to make sure your set up is good to go BEFORE you reach the event.
